The Memories That Remind us Who We Are
Updated: Sep 15
Have you ever looked at an old photo and suddenly remembered exactly where you were and what you were doing in that moment?
I have a photo from my trip to Brussels, in 2025. I was sitting in the Royal Quarters, drinking hot chocolate and eating chocolate that I had just purchased. As I look at that image and reflect on that moment, I can feel the excitement walking through the city, visiting museums, eating Belgium chocolate and waffles. Not only was I happy, I was connected to a version of myself that I had been dreaming about for years.
Connection is the ability to remember the experiences that shape you and allow them to remind you of who you are and who you are becoming.
I’m sure you have a memory like that, also. Maybe it’s from your childhood, a fun family trip, or an event you attended with your friends.
Memory Walk
Find one photo from a moment that meant something to you.
Ask yourself:
What was I feeling?
What did that moment teach me?
What did I discover about myself?
What part of that girl is still inside me today?
Is there something that memory is reminding me to pursue?
Sometimes the memories we keep returning to are trying to remind us of something. Maybe they remind you of what made you feel alive. Maybe they reveal something you loved before life became complicated. Maybe they remind you of a dream you stopped pursuing.
